KAYAKING
CLASSES
Anytime is a good time to learn kayaking.
We offer courses in basic kayaking skills-
flatwater and rolls. Classes for those new
to the sport. Classes are on an individual
basis, private classes are offered through
Divers Reef so contact the Reef at 531-7100.
Types of classes are: sport, touring, whitewater,
and sit-on-top. QUICK START The Quick Start
or Flatwater course is 3-5 hour introductory
session in a controlled environment with
emphasis on equipment, basic water skills
and, above all, safety. At the end of the
course you'll have the basic skills needed
to safely get around on lakes or bodies
of protected (calm) salt water. Or, you'll
be ready to progress toward river kayaking.
THE ROLL CLINIC The Roll Clinic is a two
hour class that is designed specifically
to improve and expand your roll skills.
Left side, right side, and hand rolls will
be learned and practiced in preparation
for river kayaking. INTRODUCTION TO RIVER
KAYAKING COURSE This class is designed to
build upon the skills you've already acquired
and actually get you out into whitewater.
During the course, you'll learn some of
the fundamental moves - like eddy turns,
peel outs, and surfing - as well as how
to avoid common river dangers. When you've
finished, you'll have the knowledge and
ability to safely navigate Class 1 and Class
2 rapids.
